DANCERS OVER 40 MOURNS THE LOSS OF FORMER
DO40 BOARD MEMBER HARVEY EVANS

Dancer/Actor/Singer/Host/Moderator/Board Member and all-around great guy,

One of the best dancers of the 20th century passed away Christmas eve, former DO40 board member Harvey Evans.  With a career that spanned over 60 years, from New Girl in Town, WSS, WSS the 1961 movie and even a cameo in the 2021 WSS movie, as well as Anyone can Whistle, Hello, Dolly!, Follies, La Cage aux Folles, Sunset Boulevard, On the Town and Oklahoma! revivals and more - he was the dancer’s dancer.  Harvey was more distant the last few years when he became ill, and he was not one to answer emails and phone calls quickly.  Everyone loved/loves Harvey. An in demand guy at so many Broadway Cares/EFA Events, our DO40 flea market table, moderating our events on Jack Cole, The Women of Fosse, Gwen Verdon, our WSS movie reunion and more.  A real pro.

This is when our motto, our History, our Legacy and our Lives really matters.  We are so lucky, so honored to be able to have Harvey on tape/DVD multiple times interviewing his peers, talking about his life’s work and performing into his “waaay” over 40 years.

He’s still here, as are Marge Champion, Louise Quick, Marge Beddow, Tony Stevens, Janice Herbert, Johnny Nola, Gene Gavin, Skip Randall and more dancing feet, with their legacies now catalogued and stored at the Jerome Robbins Dance Division of the New York Public Library.  Can’t stress enough how important an organization like Dancers over 40 is – and will (hopefully!) continue to be with the support from the dance and theater community and friends of the arts joining DO40 through membership or donation to keep our community together.   Here are a few photos from DO40 events with Harvey, from 2007 on.  Always with that twinkle in his eye…
